Soda and Dental Decay

Soda and Dental Decay

We find decay almost every day. One of the major culprits of dental decay is soda . Mountain Dew and Coke are the two worst sodas for causing dental decay. Soda acid can make a hole in your tooth – this is dental decay.

Hello and welcome to incredible smiles.com. My name is Dr. Lori Kemmet founder and owner of incredible smiles. Almost every day I do exams on people and find decay. Why do we get decay? Most of the time it has to do with a lack of brushing and flossing but for the younger generation and even those of us in our 30s 40s and 50s we still get decay.

What are the major contributors to decay? It is soda drinking or Gatorade drinking. Anything that might have a little bit of sweetness to it. The two worst things to drink are Mountain Dew and Coca-Cola. A lot of times I find decay in my teenagers because they have a habit of drinking Coke or Mountain Dew to stay awake to study. The best way that we have found to neutralize the effects of excess acid on your teeth is to brush your teeth with baking soda. The sooner that you do that after drinking a soda the better you will be able to neutralize the pH in your mouth. Otherwise bad acid is making a hole in your teeth and that’s how we get decay.
