Myth about 6 month cleanings
In the 1950’s dentists were told by a toothpaste company that they should tell their patients to have their teeth cleaned every 6 months. The general public is not well served with this philosophy.
Hello and welcome to incredible smiles.com. My name is Dr. Lori Kemmet founder and owner of incredible smiles. What is the myth about six-month cleanings? The myth is that in the 1950s dentists were told by a toothpaste company that their patients should have their teeth cleaned every six months so that’s what dentists recommended.
The truth is that a very small percentage of the population is well served by six-month cleanings. 75% of the general population has gingivitis, those people, like me need our teeth cleaned more frequently. Flossing, Brushing, using a mouth rinse, using a WaterPik are all extra things that are great but you still need the help of the dentist to get the tartar off below the gum tissue. You can’t reach that with your floss or with your toothbrush.
