Summer produce at the Boulder Farmer’s Market

It’s that time of year again. All the locals are headed down to the Boulder Farmer’s Market to indulge in the amazing selection of freshly picked treats. Rhubarb, beets, strawberries, peaches, squash blossoms, green beans, bok choy, and the list goes on. I look forward to summer produce all year long, not to mention seeing the entire community outside enjoying the sun and Boulder Creek.

Did you know that fresh produce happens to be an amazing way to keep your teeth healthy and clean?

According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry president Marty Zase, DMD, foods such as apples, pears, celery, carrots and cucumber help produce saliva, which combines with those foods’ organic fibers to naturally decrease the mouth’s acidity, clean teeth, wash away food particles, and remove bacteria. Other foods, in addition to being healthy, are multi-purposeful: strawberries help whiten and brighten teeth, while raw vegetables can help clean and remove surface stains. Apples have been called nature’s toothbrush because they stimulate the gums, increase saliva flow and reduce the build-up of cavity-causing bacteria.

So remember to load up your reusable bags at the Boulder Farmer’s Market with organic, raw, fresh, yummy vegetables and fruits. They are great for your oral health!
