My Positive Experience with Incredible Smiles
- Tom Martino
I want to share with you a personal experience with the miracle of cosmetic dentistry. I call it a "miracle" because of how it transformed my smile (and self-image) in just a few hours. Teeth whitening alone would never have been enough and braces could never have accomplished the ultimate results. Having a great smile and good teeth are so important. Sales people, executives, professionals, performers, students and just about anyone can benefit from looking good and feeling better about themselves.
All my life I have been dissatisfied with my smile. Those of you who've seen me on TV may recall I never flashed big smiles and in most of my publicity photos I never showed my teeth. Like many people my bottom teeth were very crooked. I wasn't pleased with my top teeth either. The front teeth were smaller than those in the back of my mouth and a bit crooked as well. It made for an awkward smile.
Oral hygiene was another problem. Although I brushed often and flossed, the crowding of my teeth made fighting plaque an impossible battle.
Before I tell you my experience, take a look at my "before" picture and then please read on before looking at the final results of the cosmetic procedure. You can see why I wanted a change. When I was younger I could not afford braces. Besides, braces can take years to straighten teeth and they do nothing for the shape or length of teeth. I tried teeth whitening, but what good are white teeth if they are crooked and misshaped?
I cannot tell you how happy I was to discover that one of the best cosmetic dentists in the country is located in Boulder, Colorado! Her name is Dr. Lori Ann Kemmet. She owns and operates Incredible Smiles. You can find out more about her incredible practice on my exclusive Referral List at Troubleshooter.com. I say this with no exaggeration: I have never had a more pleasant experience with any medical professional ever. It was clear from the very start that her standards, manner and practice were exemplary.
My first visit was a complimentary consultation with Jeff Bailey, Manager of Guest Services, in an office setting with no dental examination. It was a chance to ask questions and to get a complete explanation of the procedure. It seemed too good to be true!
Before embarking on the cosmetic procedure, it was time to make molds of my mouth to create a model. Dr. Kemmet recommended a thorough and deep cleaning. I was long overdue for one and she wanted my gum tissue to be healthy before transforming my smile. I have had cleanings before, but never like this. The most advanced equipment was used with the delicate touch of a skilled surgeon. There was never any pain or even minor discomfort.
ATTENTION: Before giving you my experience with the actual procedure I have a word of caution. Many dentists are now claiming to be "Cosmetic Dentists" because they took a weekend seminar or a few classes on certain procedures. Please be careful in choosing a professional to do this procedure. It takes a combination of artistry and science. If not done correctly it can look artificial and seriously damage your teeth, mouth and jaw. I do not believe it should be a "sideline" of a dental practice. That is why I chose Dr. Kemmet. Her practice is dedicated to trained and qualified cosmetic dentistry.
The first session for the cosmetic procedure lasted just four hours. I chose to have both my upper teeth and lower teeth done in one session. The purpose of this visit was to shape my teeth and apply the temporary veneers. Shaping teeth is a very important step. Before starting, Dr. Kemmet carefully created a model of my mouth with what she felt would be a beautiful smile. The great thing about her work is that she didn't make my teeth look perfect to a point of looking fake. She designed my smile to fit my mouth, jaw line, facial structure and personality. She then used this model as a guide for shaping my teeth.
The idea behind shaping is to use the maximum amount of natural tooth structure while leaving the base and root in place. Protruding and overlapping edges are eliminated with this procedure. Ultimately each tooth structure will be fitted with a porcelain veneer that bonds to the front and back of the tooth (depending on your needs). It becomes part of the tooth structure and is permanent. (Studies indicate that bonded veneers can last up to 20 years before touchups are needed.)
After my teeth were shaped, Dr. Kemmet applied a temporary overlay material. Even the "temporaries" were a vast improvement. I was amazed at the change in my smile. The temporary overlays looked so great I wanted to keep them, but the best was yet to come.
Three weeks later ... the big day! The permanent veneers had arrived from the lab. This visit took just three hours. The temporary overlays were removed and the individual porcelain veneers were applied with much care and precision. Take a look at the end result and compare to my BEFORE picture. Wow! What a difference. I cannot believe what a difference it has made in my appearance and in my self-image.
In addition to feeling better about myself, I can take better care of my teeth now that there are no more "tight" spots where plaque can hide. I have never felt more positive about anything I have ever done.
In my case, I had 20 teeth done ... ten on top and ten on the bottom. Many people will not need that much work. Sometimes just a few teeth need to be shaped and veneered to transform your smile.
